The Cultural, Economic and Political Necessity of Presenting Artists on a Global Level.
There is no doubt: art and culture are fundamental elements of human life and progress. Without the plurality of artistic expression and cultural diversity, there can be no true prosperity—neither in society nor in the economy.
Artists are not merely creators of objects or performances. They are catalysts of reflection, experimentation and imagination—pushing the boundaries of freedom, often where political or societal discourse cannot go without harm. Artistic exploration allows us to investigate and visualise psychological and social truths that cannot always be spoken directly. In this sense, art is not just a cultural product; it is a space of human possibility.
Artists—regardless of gender, background, or identity—serve as vital sources of inspiration and freedom. Their work is a mirror to society and to ourselves.
In many cases, art may be the only peaceful and non-destructive way to understand others—and to come to terms with our own inner lives.
That is why we, as a society, must support professional artists with genuine commitment: financially, structurally, and socially. Every artist brings a unique perspective to light, enriching our collective human experience. Artistic diversity is not a luxury, but a democratic necessity—essential for the development of free, pluralistic, and open societies.
At Artforum Culture Foundation Hellas, in cooperation with our partners and networks, we are proud to offer a dedicated platform for artists to present their work, their biographies, and their values to a global audience. We believe that supporting artists is not only a cultural task, but a civic responsibility.
To strengthen this support, we have created ArtLink – an international platform for professional exchange. The initiative includes online profiles, back-office curatorial advice, annual bilingual artist books, and regular newsletters sent to collectors, museums, curators, architects, corporate art departments, and journalists.
We are convinced that a non-profit organisation must take on this role: to connect, to promote, and to protect artistic voices worldwide. However, to do so effectively, we depend on support—from the artists themselves, from public institutions, from the EU, and from committed individuals across the globe.
Memberships, donations and public grants are essential tools to help us realise this mission.
Together, we can ensure that the arts remain not only visible, but vibrant—and that artists continue to inspire the world, across all borders.

Expanding Cultural Space

As a complementary initiative to Virtual Art Projects, Augmented Realities is conceived as a focused platform dedicated specifically toartistic practices using Augmented Reality (AR).
While Virtual Art Projects concentrates on web-based and digital works, Augmented Realities explores how digital layers can interact with physical space. AR allows artists to overlay virtual elements onto real environments—urban spaces, landscapes, historical sites, architecture, or exhibition venues—thereby expanding perception and reinterpreting cultural contexts.
The project invites Greek and international artists to develop AR-based works that engage with themes such as cultural memory, identity, mythology, migration, environment, and contemporary social realities. Particular emphasis is placed on projects that create meaningful dialogue between physical location and digital intervention.

Key objectives:
• To explore AR as an autonomous artistic medium;
• To connect local spaces with global audiences;
• To create hybrid exhibition formats combining on-site and remote experiences;
• To foster innovation at the intersection of art, technology, and cultural discourse.
Selected works may be presented through:
• AR-enabled exhibitions in cooperation with partner institutions;
• Public-space interventions accessible via smartphone;
• AR-enhanced publications;
• Online documentation and international dissemination.
Augmented Realities positions AR not as a technical novelty, but as a critical artistic tool – one that expands cultural space, challenges perception, and strengthens international exchange through innovative, site-responsive practices.

Digital Platforms for Contemporary Culture

VIRTUAL ART PROJECTS is dedicated to the presentation, dissemination, and critical reflection of web-based artistic projects by Greek and international artists who engage with Greece—its cultural memory, contemporary realities, and the evolving spirit of Greek culture.
The initiative focuses on digital formats such as web-based artworks, virtual exhibitions, interactive media, video works, digital archives, online performances, and interdisciplinary projects conceived specifically for the digital space. It recognizes the internet not merely as a distribution channel, but as an autonomous
artistic medium.
The project aims to:

• Provide an international platform for innovative digital artistic production;

• Connect Greek cultural discourse with global digital art practices;

• Encourage experimental formats that reinterpret cultural identity, history, mythology, landscape, language, and social transformation;

• Expand access to contemporary art beyond geographic limitations.

Artists are invited to submit web-based works or project proposals that demonstrate conceptual clarity, technical quality, and a meaningful connection—direct or interpretative—to Greece and its cultural resonance.

Selected projects will be presented through curated online features, thematic digital exhibitions, and collaborations with international partner organizations.

Through professional publication and networked dissemination, VIRTUAL ART PROJECTS seeks to strengthen the visibility of contemporary artistic positions and foster sustainable transnational exchange in the digital realm.

Photography is one of the most powerful and independent forms of visual art. This project presents photography as an equal and autonomous artistic medium, with a particular focus on conceptual approaches.
The initiative explores three central themes:
• Photography as a means of processing reality – How do artists use the image to reflect, question, and reinterpret social, political, or personal realities?
• The image of the artist in photography – Self-representation, authorship, presence, and the construction of artistic identity.
• Land and landscape – From cultural landscape to psychological space, from environmental transformation to symbolic territory.
We invite photographers and visual artists working with photographic media to submit individual works or coherent series that demonstrate conceptual depth, formal clarity, and a distinct artistic position.
The project aims to strengthen photography’s visibility as a fully recognized artistic discipline and to create a professional platform for presentation and dissemination.
A qualified jury will review all submissions. Selected works will be presented in curated formats, including exhibitions, publications, and digital features. All presentations will be professionally curated to ensure artistic quality and meaningful contextualization.
Photography – Image, Identity, Landscape seeks to create a dynamic space where contemporary photographic practice can unfold, challenge perception, and contribute to international artistic dialogue.

As part of Contemporary Greek Art – Positions in Dialogue, this module focuses on the global Greek diaspora and its cultural impact. Greek communities in the USA (especially the East Coast), London, Germany, Italy, Russia/Ukraine, Melbourne, Cape Town and other international centers have shaped important artistic and cultural exchanges. The project also welcomes perspectives from other diasporic communities facing similar questions of identity and cultural continuity.
We invite greek artists who live and work abroad and who either preserve elements of their cultural heritage or actively contribute to intercultural dialogue and artistic exchange. Themes such as migration, memory, hybridity, and transnational identity are central. And we warmly invite art supporters and partners to contribute
to this initiative through donations, sponsorship, or collaboration, helping us strengthen international exchange and sustainable cultural networks.
Selected contributions will be presented through online publications, exhibition collaborations, and international partnerships. The aim is to strengthen visibility, foster sustainable networks, and position diaspora as a dynamic force within contemporary global culture.

This project aims to position contemporary Greek art within a dynamic European and global exchange. While Greece is often perceived internationally through the lens of Antiquity and religious cultural heritage, its modern and contemporary artistic developments—particularly those emerging from the significant yet still insufficiently recognized artistic movements of the 20th century—deserve broader visibility and critical engagement.
Building upon the legacy of influential modern Greek artists and post-war artistic developments, the initiative seeks to highlight the diversity, intellectual
strength, and conceptual depth of contemporary artistic positions in Greece today. It intends to demonstrate that Greek art is not defined solely by its historical past, but is actively shaping present and future cultural discourse.
By presenting a wide range of artistic approaches—conceptual, visual, interdisciplinary—the project contributes to an international dialogue that connects Greek artistic production with broader European and global conversations.

Call for Artists
Contemporary artists, wether from greece or concerning greece, are invited to submit their work and conceptual statements for consideration. Submissions should reflect a clear artistic position and demonstrate engagement with contemporary cultural, social, or aesthetic questions.
An independent jury composed of art professionals, cultural practitioners, art market experts, and artists will review the submissions based on artistic quality, conceptual coherence, and relevance to the project’s aims.
Selected contributions will be presented through curated online features and, subject to agreement, may also be included in print publications and disseminated through partner organizations and international networks.
The objective is to strengthen the international visibility of contemporary Greek art and to foster sustained cultural exchange grounded in professional standards, openness, and mutual respect.

ROPOTO – Lost Village: The Experience of Uncertainty
Ropoto, a small village in Central Greece, has become a striking symbol of environmental vulnerability and structural failure. Following years of geologicalinstability—culminating in a massive landslide in 2012—large parts of the village were abandoned. Homes, streets, and most famously the dramatically tilted church, now standing at an extreme angle, have become visible markers of ecological imbalance, insufficient planning, and the fragile relationship between human settlement and natural forces.

The project ROPOTO – Lost Village: The Experience of Uncertainty takes this site as a starting point for artistic research and reflection. It explores themes such as environmental policy, climate impact, geological risk, collective memory, displacement, and the psychological dimensions of instability. Ropoto becomes both subject and metaphor: a place where the consequences of environmental neglect and structural miscalculation are physically inscribed into the landscape.

Artists are invited to engage with the village not as a spectacle, but as a living context shaped by real histories and affected communities. The remaining inhabited part of Ropoto will, in cooperation with local residents, serve as a platform for artistic exchange — a space for dialogue, encounter, and interdisciplinary reflection.

The project aims to transform a site marked by collapse into a center for critical inquiry and cultural resilience. Through artistic contributions, Ropoto may become a place where uncertainty is not only documented, but examined, interpreted, and collectively reimagined.

Art as a Medium of Communication in Democracies – and as a Form of Articulation in Autocratic Systems.
Art constitutes a vital space for societal reflection and public discourse. In democratic contexts, it facilitates open dialogue, critical inquiry, and pluralistic exchange. In autocratic or restrictive systems, art may become one of the few remaining channels of articulation—operating symbolically, indirectly, or through forms of resistance and documentation.
This project examines the role and responsibility of artistic practice within differing political environments. It seeks to present and connect international artistic positions that critically engage with the relationship between art, public space, and structures of power.

Expectations of Participating Artists
Participating artists are expected to submit independent, conceptually grounded contributions that clearly reflect on the relationship between artistic practice and its political or societal context. Submissions should articulate a discernible position and demonstrate thoughtful engagement with issues of freedom of expression, responsibility, and the conditions under which art is produced and received.
Contributions may take visual, textual, or media-based form, provided they meet professional and ethical standards.

Publication and Dissemination
Selected contributions may be published through Artforum and, subject to prior agreement with the respective authors or rights holders, may also be disseminated through partner organizations and international networks.
All publication and distribution will take place in accordance with applicable copyright laws and based on the consent of the contributors.
The objective of this initiative is to strengthen the visibility of artistic positions that understand art as a responsible societal force—supporting dialogue, critical reflection, and the principles of cultural freedom.
